Headrest is a unique wellbeing service, offering an anonymous protected space for colleagues to talk to experienced former headteachers and CEOs. It is this authenticity and shared experience that is key to its success: those at Headrest know what it is like to run a school or trust in challenging times. I would encourage every headteacher to check out this free telephone service – you never know when it might be exactly the support you need.
Headrest is inspirational. It shows us all that even in the darkest of times the very special people who work in the education sector are always willing to go the extra mile to help each other. We are proud to be associated with Headrest and are grateful that this resource is available to our respected and trusted colleagues.
I just wanted to say how touched I am that there is someone out there with my wellbeing at heart. I am a new headteacher and the pressure is immense. Just knowing you are there makes all the difference. Thank you.

Headrest is invaluable because it feels like part of the educational world is putting its arms round you just when you need it most.

What a fabulous idea.

On a purely practical level, headteachers are starting to self-organise and offer each other mutual support. Just last month, a group of ex-heads set up Headrest – a free confidential helpline for school leaders. It's a brilliant idea, and one that's more thoughtful and in-touch than anything the government might have come up with itself.
